In this loose reinvention of the classic Bram Stoker novel, the Count (Gerard Butler) is transplanted to the present day, after a brief prologue where Van Helsing (Christopher Plummer) captures Dracula and conceals him in Carfax Abbey, where he remains for many years. In the future, Carfax Abbey is contained within an office building where Van Helsing's been using Dracula's blood to stay alive in order to guard the evil secret. After a band of thieves, led by the malevolent Marcus (Omar Epps), attempts to seize Dracula's remains, the Count escapes to New Orleans, where Mary Van Helsing (Justine Waddell) currently resides. Mary is eventually persuaded to fight Dracula with the aid of a reluctant Simon(Jonny Lee Miller), one of Van Helsing's employees, all while trying to escape the newly-made vampires of Marcus' gang and a zealous TV reporter (Jeri Ryan). The film also features Lochlyn Munro, Jennifer Esposito, Vitamin C, and Danny Masterson in supporting roles.

Features
Alternate versions and Deleted scenes from the DVD include: An extended version of the final confrontation between Dracula and Van Helsing. An alternate version of the scene where Dracula attacks Valerie at the site of the plane crash. In this version he can be seen rising from the swamp behind her. He also says the line which could only be heard in the previews, "There are things much worse than death". A longer and much more dramatic version of the scene where Dracula talks to the Jesus on the neon cross. Dracula explains how he feels that he was the one who was betrayed. A longer version of the scene where Van Helsing and his accomplices trap Dracula in London. This was originally the opening scene to the film. A scene where vampire Val approaches Simon before leading him into the crowded streets of New Orleans during Mardi Gras. During the Judas fantasy sequence, Mary walks up to Dracula while he's hanging from a tree. The rope around his neck breaks and he attacks Mary. After finding her father, Mary walks out into the hallway where she meets vampire Lucy for the first time. This was replaced by the scene where the hallway becomes longer and Mary is approached by all three vampire brides instead of just Lucy.
